Alterna Bamboo UV+ Shampoo & Conditioner

Dear readers,

Although I absolutely love the Macadamia hair care range I wanted to try out something new. My most recent YouTube obsession has been Jaclyn Hill and I'm so in love with her hair colour that I'm thinking of dying my hair the same shade. I should have gone to my hairdresser's yesterday but I ended up canceling my appointment as I was too tired from work and took a long nap instead. I'm planning on going next week as my greys are multiplying like crazy and I really need to cover them up.

Alterna Bamboo Color Hold +

While browsing through my dozens of subscription emails I came upon an offer from HQHair and I decided to try out the Alterna Bamboo Color Hold which features a UV Shield and is free of:
  • Parabens
  • Sulfates
  • Gluten
  • Phthalates
  • Sodium chloride
  • Synthetic color

They had a 25% off offer when buying 2 or more products from the range so I got the shampoo and conditioner for 12.75£ each.

I still haven't tried them out so I cannot give you my opinion on the product itself at this point but so far I can tell you that I absolutely love the packaging. The container bottles are made to look like bamboo stems with their vascular bundles what makes them have the most perfect grip.

Best of all is the twisty top. I find this so much better than pumps. You can store the bottles upside down so that you can get the last drop of product out and you'll never have to worry again about losing the cap.

I tried to get a whiff of the scent but I couldn't discern any particular smell so I'll keep you updated on that after I've given them a few tries. Not so sure about me dying my hair red but more on that later.

Have a great weekend!

Beach freebies

Dear readers,

Last Friday the hubby and I went to the beach as I hadn't been out of the house for almost a week and I needed some fresh air. I was reading some notes for my exam when I heard someone approach us, I didn't pay any attention as I don't like beach vendors bothering me. Where we live there's a constant flow of different kind of vendors: from sunglasses to dresses.

But this time it was different, there was a very short interchange of words and they were gone. When I looked up from my notes I saw two small boxes lying on my sunlounger.

Uresim SPF30

In total they left us 4 of these sample-sized spray bottles of the Uresim SPF30.

I've only used this a couple of times over the weekend but so far I'm liking it. Even though it contains a few oils (carrot & nut) it leaves no oily residue or stickiness. It says on the packaging that it contains perfume but to me it just doesn't smell at all. The way I prefer applying this is by spraying it on the palm of my hand first and then rub it into the skin, this way I won't miss any spots.

As I prefer using the Delial Ambre Solaire Golden Protect sunscreen lotion that has been a favourite of mine for the last 3 years I'm thinking about carrying this in my purse for emergencies. You'll never know when you'll be needing sunscreen and this is just the perfect size.

Yay for freebies! Who's with me?

Fashion haul: Forever21, H&M and Asos

Dear readers,

They finally gave me a date for my exam: July 7th. Hopefully I will be back to uploading 3 times a week as I promised myself this January as part of my New Year resolution, yes just the one.

Keeping in mind that I'm no fashion blogger and that the lighting in my hallway absolutely sucks I'm leaving you with some self taken pictures where I strategically cut my head off, no need for you to see my tired Monday face after a long day's work.

H&M Pineapple top for 7.99€. You can barely see a bit of a black lace bra , this was 14.99€. I had already purchase one in a floral print to wear under tops with low cut sleeve holes and I wanted one in plain black. They are very comfy as they non-wired and have wide lace straps, this way I don't mind my bra peaking through my tops.

This top's the same but in a cute floral print, I like that they are shorter up front and almost cover my butt in the back.

I had ordered the pants from H&M for 14.99€ a few weeks ago and didn't have many tops to combine it with so I got this very simple black top for 14.99€. It has a sort of golden necklace attached to the neckline which makes it a bit fancier, not sure how it's going to survive the washing machine, though.

The same top with these Asos pants for 24.99€ that I got a while back. I just fell in love with the floral print and the black detailing on the sides as well as on the top and bottom. And they are the perfect length as I found them on the petite section, yay!

From Forever21 I only got two pieces as my Internet connection was running like sh** and when I finally was able to make the payment one item was already out of stock. I'm in need of some basic dresses so I picked this one in beige for 12€, it has kind of an cutout back so I need to think of a way to wear it with a bra without it showing. Any ideas?

I thought I could dress this off-white shirt up with a nice skirt, like I did here, and some jewelry or wear it plain with jeans for a more laid-back look. The sleeves are a bit long so maybe I should have ordered it in a small instead. I only paid 9.90€ as I could get one item for 40% off. And sorry about the creasing y'all I just opened up all the packages just before taking the pictures.

The H&M items were 15% off and all of my online purchases were delivered free of charge.

I also got 3 very sleeveless maxi tops that I'm using as dresses when I'm staying at home or going down to the beach. They were 7.99€ each and are made of the softest cotton, I got them at Stradivarius.

Optrex: eyedrops in spray

Dear readers,

Although I'm a tad nearsighted I don't usually wear my prescription glasses as I'm always working on my computer at work or at home and for that I don't need wearing them yet *fingers crossed.

I work for 7 straight hours from Monday to Friday, that leaves me with plenty of time to do other things, like blogging.

The minute I enter my apartment I head straight to my computer and start working on my blog, that involves being active on my social media, read other blogs and interact with other bloggers, edit pictures, watch some YouTube and, of course, do some online shopping, yay for that!

At the end of the day when I take off my make up, and I do this each and every night, I sometimes feel my eyes itching or feeling very dry so I reach for my eye drops.

A few weeks ago I went to the Pharmacy to pick up my usual meds (allergies) and I saw this little spray bottle on display at the counter:

Optrex spray ocular

Optrex spray ocular

Optrex spray ocular

Personally, I don't have any trouble in using the regular eye drops. On the other hand, a friend of mine is scared to death for anything coming close to her eyes. One time we had to force her between 3 people to put some drops into her eyes in order to treat an infection she had developed.

So I purchased this eye spray having her in mind in case it proved out to be any good. You are  supposed to spray this onto your closed eyelids, 1 or 2 times on each eye at a 10cm distance. Genius isn't it?

1ml of product contains:

Soy Lecithin                     10mg
Sodium Chloride                8mg
Ethanol                            8mg
Phenoxyethanol                 5mg
Vitamin A Palmitate       0.25mg
Vitamin E                      0.02mg
Purified water

As I've never tried the eye drops version I cannot compare them. My regular drops only contain methyl cellulose (lubricant) so I'm not sure what salt and alcohol are doing in eye drops/spray.

After a few times trying this out I can say that this product stings quite a bit, it made my eyelids very itchy and it didn't feel comforting or moisturizing to my eyes.

I'm sorry I can't remember its exact price but I think it was close to the 5€ mark.

I wouldn't recommend this product to replace your regular drops unless you have a similar fear to them as the one my friend has. I'm going to find an alternative use as that's what I like to do with anything that doesn't work out for me, which is quite often, let me tell you.

I think I'm going to use it to make my eyeshadows pop by applying them with a wet brush. Instead of reaching for my Fix + by MAC I'll use the Optrex Actimist 2-in-1 eye spray. I haven't tried this out yet so I hope it won't sting my eyes so badly, otherwise I'll have to get rid of it.

Any other thoughts on alternative uses?

Aerostretching #2

Dear readers,

I really must go back to my studying so I hope you'll forgive me for keeping this short.

In a previous post I already talked about my aerostretching classes and how much I enjoy them.  I also dedicated an entire post to my CC Sportswear.

Today I'm leaving you with the most recent exercises we have learned.

I wish y'all a fantastic weekend,

Copycat alert: adult colouring book

Dear readers,

A few years back I followed a de-stress course only to help out my sister-in-law, who was in desperate need for attendants. Little did I know how good it would do me. It was sort of a crash course, only 8 hours split into two consecutive days but it was enough to dig into our deepest feelings. You know how you can block out and even forget some painful memories? Well they all came out to me in the form of tears after only one simple meditation exercise. I had never done mediation before in my life so I wasn't prepared for the powerful effect it had on me.

On the second day we had to draw something, anything that came to mind. Seems quite simple and straightforward, doesn't it? And it is, actually, but you wouldn't believe how it helps empty the mind from all the junk information that we tend to accumulate during the day, every day, for the rest of our lives. It felt like I'd emptied my mental trash can and made space in my head for new and more useful thoughts.

The only time when we truly close our minds to reboot and recharge is during our sleep. To me, sleep has always been very important. There are people who can function relatively well with only 4-6 hours of sleep, I can't. I need at least 8, although 9 would be ideal but, let's face it, who has the time to sleep 9 hours a day?

That's when the painting comes in handy. I read or heard? about adult colouring becoming popular a few months back and I thought about getting myself a colouring book because I'd had such a positive experience that one time. On the other hand I was thinking, am I really spending money on such a childish passtime? So I put it off for a while.

Lately I've been feeling quite stressful at work and, taking advantage of the fact that I have to prepare for some exams, I've taken up all this year's vacation days to study. I'm more than halfway through and I can't seem to focus or concentrate with so many things in my mind.

So, instead of studying I was going through my Twitter feed aka #procrastination when I came across this tweet:

Tweet by @sweetdreamsxox

It was like this post by Alexandra from Sweet Dreams was especially made for me. Even before I'd finished reading it, I was opening tabs on my computer to make my online order. I first looked at Amazon.es and when I had the items in my basket I went to Amazon.co.uk and compared prices. I always do this as most times it's cheaper to have it sent from the UK, even though the shipping fee is twice as high, don't ask me why. Sure enough it was cheaper on the UK site so I ordered it from there and got them carefully wrapped and punctually delivered this afternoon.

I even copied Alexandra's choice in pens as she made such sense in describing how the 0.3mm fine liners were great for filling in tight spaces and wouldn't transfer to the oposite page. I just hope she don't mind too much me copying her ideas.

Happy colouring, or whatever you like doing to recharge batteries,

Father's Day gift ideas

Dear readers,

Although Father's Day is celebrated on March 19th in Spain (Saint Joseph's), I wanted to share some gift ideas with those of you who are celebrating it this month.

My father passed away more than 15 years ago but my mom has had a new boyfriend for quite a while now. Not that I would buy him a gift for Father's Day but his birthday is in June and I had to find him a present.

I came across this website: IWOOT (I want one of those) and really liked the range of items they are selling. They even offer what they call New Experience Days, such as wine tasting, rally thrill, quad biking, tank driving and more fun stuff.

These are a few of my personal favourites:

And this is what I ended up getting for Dougie: Garnier Delial SPF 50 for face and body.

His GP has been warning him about the chance of developing skin cancer as he used to be a sailor and spent too much time in the sun without protection.

As most guys he hates putting on creams and lotions, especially if they leave that unpleasant sticky residue so I thought he would like the oil-free face cream and the dry body mist.

Just when I had decided on getting him the body mist a sales person mentioned they were having a new deal in all sunscreen products: every second item being 50% discounted. So I grabbed the face cream as well and went home feeling very lucky.

Haul: The Body Shop

Dear readers,

Last February I decided to test myself and see if I could avoid spending money on beauty products for 6 months. I wrote this post about it in case you're curious about why I'd put myself through this nightmare :(

The Body Shop

Although I'm supposed to stay away from online stores I came across a 25% off from The Body Shop just when I was in need of replacing my facial cleanser. The one I had was making my skin very dry and flaky, especially around the nose. Never had I experienced any kind of skin issue before in my life, and that's saying something. I'm trying to cut down its usage to once a week but so far that isn't working either. I should have read the description first but it was all in Japanese and the only words in English were: White Clear Foam.

The Body Shop Satsuma Body Sorbet

So I ended up getting a few other things as well. Two Body Sorbets: Satsuma (above) and Pink Grapefruit (below), which are my favourite summery scents. I've already tried the body butter and the body puree but I wanted to try out this formula and see how it compares. I still have half a tub of the body butter left but I like using lighter formulas during the warmer months.

The Body Shop Pink Grapefruit Body Sorbet

I'm also through my nighttime serum and I've been wanting to try this one with Vitamin C since a sales person from TBS recommended this to me last December.

The Body Shop Vitamin C Skin Boost serum

And lastly, the one product I really needed turned out to be another mistake, boo hoo hoo.
It serves me right for not reading the description before hitting the "Add to bag" button... I thought it would be a water-based cleanser, you know, the ones that foam up. Instead it's more like a cleansing milk and I hate those, I already have one (gifted) and it's taking me ages to use up.

The Body Shop Seaweed Facial Cleanser

The only upside is that I get to go shopping for a new facial cleanser, hooray!

CC Sportswear: Comfy & Colourful

Dear readers,

I'm not much of a sports lover, either by watching or participating. In fact, I hate all kind of sports, especially those involving rounded objects that bounce and fly to an unknown destination.

As a kid I took some ballet lessons from age 5 to 13. I quit as soon as I noticed that my boobs were refusing to grow while everyone else (including certain boys) was growing a pair. Not that it did me any good, the only things growing since then have been my butt and my muffin top :(

Not long ago I found a discipline I liked: aerostretching; read more here. At first, I didn't want to spend any money on a cute outfit as I thought I'd quit after a few lessons, like I always do. But after several months of wearing the same worn out leggings, I decided to treat myself for how well I was behaving.

So these are two outfits that I've baptized as CC (Comfy & Colourful).

Outfit #1:

I got this top from my mom, it's a very bright fucsia with some rhinestones on the upper half.

These tye-dye leggings (20€) I got online at H&M (not available anymore) whilst watching Fleur de Force mentioning it in a haul.

Outfit #2:

This old T-shirt was a present from a friend of mine who knows how much I like cats :)

And again some H&M leggings (reduced from 25€ to 21.24€), these are a more recent addition and are just a bit shorter than the other pair.

And finally I got me some trainers as the others I have are grey and bright green so they don't match any of my outfits.

I've never had black trainers before but I thought these would go perfectly with whatever outfit I choose and the purple and bright blue detailing gives them a more cheerful appearance. They weigh almost nothing, making them the comfiest shoes ever. I'm even wearing them with my denim shorts when I'm running errands.

They are by Nike and they were reduced from 50€ to 39.95€.

What's your favourite way to keep fit?
